This yang pathway ascends from the hand to the head. It proceeds along the medial side of the nail bed of the index finger, along the edge of the forearm, across the lateral side of the biceps to the shoulder. It turns off from the shoulder across the trapeze muscle to the seventh vertebra and returns to the hollow of the clavicle, sending a branch to the lungs and large intestine. A second branch leads from the hollow across the throat to the lower teeth, circles the mouth and ends next to the nostrils. The meridian originating on the right ends on the left side and vice versa. One branch divides at the Pian Li point, which is a branching site on the forearm, to the pathway of the lungs. The second branch then continues from here along the pathway of the large intestine to the ear.
